Thank you, to all that took the time to study the issues, the candidates and then voted on Tuesday in the primary. Voting is a privilege and an honor. I often think of those present and in the past that have given so much to protect our great nation and helped keep this privilege of voting.

I spent most of the summer knocking on doors. When I knocked on a door l was never sure what kind of reception l might receive. I started to call this, with some tongue in cheek, my mini town hall meetings. I did in fact talk to a lot of people. What I found talking to you, you had questions. You were inquiring. You wanted to know. It ranged from the things I was doing and my plans for the ?xture, asking about certain bills, the amendments, a whole host of questions from the silly to I did not know the answer. You were studying the issues and the candidates. You had good common sense approaches on many of our problems. This gave me hope, hope for our community, our families, our sons and daughters and our grandchildren. It makes me proud to live in a district like this. It makes me work harder, because I want to be a part of this. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to continue serving you as your representative. I am humbled and honored tor this privilege to work for you in your government.

Thank you,

Jeff Justus

NFIB FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Brad Jones, 573-634-7660, or Todd Pack, 615-872-5897

NFIB/Missouri: Rep. Jeff Justus Earns 100% Voting Record on Small-Business
Issues

JEFFERSON CITY, July 16, 2014-Brad Jones, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, said today that Rep. Jeff Justus achieved a 100 percent voting record in the 2013-14 legislative sessions.

“Small business is what drives Missouri’s economy,” Jones said. “By supporting small business, Jeff Justus is supporting working families and the community.” NFlB is Missouri’s largest small-business association with over 8,500 dues-paying members representing a cross section of the state’s economy.”

“Rep. Jeff Justus has stood up for Missouri’s employers and job creators time and time again on important issues such as tax reform and unemployment insurance,” he said. “Our members appreciate the efforts of Rep. Jeff Justus to help grow our state’s economy and create jobs.”

To achieve a 100 percent NFIB/Missouri voting record, Rep. Jeff Justus voted in support of small business on issues such as:

Workers’ compensation reform

Small-business tax reductions

Unemployment reform

Tort reform

Labor law reform

“Being in small business I understand how state regulations and tax policies effect our local business people. My voting record shows that I support less regulation and lower taxes, not just for our local small businesses, but for all the people in the 156th District. What the NFlB scores on are votes that do help our local economy.” Jeff Justus

NFlB is the nation’s leading small business association, with offices in Washington, D.C.and all 50 state capitals. Founded in 1943 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, NFl5 gives small- and independent-business owners a voice in shaping the public policy issues that affect their business. NFIB’s powerful network of grassroots activists sends its views directly to state and federal lawmakers through our unique member-only ballot, thus playing a critical role in supporting America’s free enterprise system. NFIB’s mission is to promote and protect the right of our members to own, operate and grow their businesses. More information about NFIB is available online at;

This bill was passed by the Senate and the House. It was delivered to the Governor on April 16th. On May the 1st, the Governor vetoed the bill. After the Senate voted to override the veto on May 5th, the House voted to override the veto on May 6th, Missouri workers and businesses had the first reductions in rate in the history of the State.

Major provisions of the law.

The act creates an individual income tax deduction for business income and phases it in over a period of years, beginning in 2017.

Brackets for individual income tax be adjusted annually for the percent increase in inflation.

No reduction will go into effect unless the net general revenue collected in the previous fiscal year exceeded the amount of net general revenue in any one of the three fiscal years prior to such year by at least $150 million.

(On a similar tax reduction bill in the House that had revenue trigger amounts, I was able to add an amendment that would exclude any tax revenue derived from a tax amnesty bill from being included in the revenue trigger amounts. Talking to the Senator that sponsored the bill, I explained the amendment. A one shot increase in revenue from an amnesty tax program should not be included in the trigger amount. I did not file the amendment for 2 reasons. One, I knew I would not be called on and if the amendment was added, the bill would go back to the Senate to be voted or sent to conference. Neither a good thing.)

Increases the exemption amount by $500 for individuals with a Missouri adjusted gross income of less than $20,000.

Now my reasons for voting to override the Governor’s veto. It is a true income tax reduction for small business. There are no hoops to jump through, if a small business works hard, makes money they will be able to keep more of that money. Most good small businesses in the way they are taxed do not put all that extra money in their personal pocket, but leave it in the business so they can grow. Good, sound, growing small businesses are great for the community. More payroll. More property taxes for schools and services. Local money, less dependent on the State and Federal Government. This is a win-win to me.
